Get your shearer booked in.If you are a member, the AAA website has a shearer list for each State.alpaca.asn.au/alpaca-shearer-business-directory/ Contact local alpaca breeders and work together with dates for when shearers have availability. With shearing season still 3 months off, I have been getting a number of people contact me enquiring about shearing. As their shearer is either, cutting down on numbers, retiring or injured. If this affects you, feel free to contact me to get yourself onto my shearing client list. I am still a month or 2 off actually booking days. But you are better off getting onto shearers as early as possible. That way we can work you into shearing runs. I’ll be doing all my normal runs. All around Shepparton, Wangaratta, Mansfield, Melbourne, Murrindindi, Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Geelong, Colac, Ballarat, Warrnambool, Portland areas. I will be adding Phillip Island and right over to Warragul area. But am happy to travel almost anywhere if I can fill a full day. I am in constant contact with a number of other shearers. So if I cannot help you I can certainly point you in the direction of someone who can.Cheers Matt 🦙🦙 ... See MoreSee Less

June 2022 winter. The halters are on!With a total of nine crias at Chakana Blue this drop. It’s always a fun time learning what each cria has. Not only in terms of quality genetics but personality…..There’s a couple of real characters here. The two older aunties are chosen to keep them in line😄. Not all are yet weaned.🤪😁😇🤩😊🤗🫣😍😎Looking forward to their show careers unfolding.www.australianalpacas.com.au ... See MoreSee Less

Farm maintenance. Awww, that just sounds like work….Here in Melbourne the final days of Autumn herald frosty winter mornings. Winter means, cozy days indoors. Hearty meals. And bundling up next to a glowing fire with a good book.My Mum used to say “Come on, let’s get all the work done so we can do the fun stuff” Hmmmn, I’ve figured out that life isn’t really like that because the work doesn’t really ever get fully done. It’s better to make the work fun if you can.On the farm a little organisation goes a long way. Farm maintenance cannot be neglected, especially at this time of year. Jack Frost is gearing up 🥾🥾Like seriously, tell me you’ve never been struggling in the rain and mud, wishing you’d fixed the darn latch on the gate when the sun was shining 😣😂Or looking for dry firewood in the rain ☔️Do something today that you’ll be glad you did tomorrow.🤗We all manage to get complacent from time to time but you can make an effort to be pro active not reactive in everything you do.Regular checks on fences, gates/latches, water troughs etc. Sneaking an hour in regularly to monitor weeds, will pay you back tenfold. Stock up your firewood pile.Work out how much feed to order in, plan ahead.Make your animal feed stations away from gates, you already know they will be muddy areas 😉Maintain vehicles and tools. Keep them in clean working order, it’s no fun when they fail.Keep a ready stock of machinery fuels.Never stack items in doorways or driveways because…. Repeat after me “Accessibility is important”!Pick up that rusty old roll of wire you keep having to step over🫣Throw out the buckets with broken handles.Fix the leaky tap🙄Pick up the fallen branches in paddocks. We all know the myriad of little jobs that can sidetrack our day on the farm but some things make a huge difference to everyday in the future.Start your day planning out the best way to fit in what you need to get done. And hey, don’t finish your day in the dark. It’s a slippery slope of ups and downs on a farm. If you are feeling overwhelmed step back and remind yourself “you are doing the best you can with what you have”❤️Tomorrow you can start fresh😎Reach out for help if you need to, we all go through rocky patches. And consider your neighbours, it’s what was done so well in the past yet we tend to think we are invincible these days.Take a few extra moments at the end of the day to admire your animals and your handiwork around the joint. …..Now you can go do the housework and cook dinner 😇😆🤣Above all stay positive. You are the biggest asset on your farm🥰Cheers from Chakana Blue 🍷 ... Celebration Show, Red Hill.Victorian Eastern Region Age Championship and Fleece show21.05.22Such a foggy drive in to this show yet the day was a perfect sunny example of pre winters day in Melbourne.😃Tim was not 100% (with a cold) so I was flying solo this show. A small, all male Suri team of 3 and 2 Huacayas loaded into the float gracefully at 6am.Abby not happy about being the only girl.😉She did get a suite all to herself and the boys were good chaperones.71 entries all told. Our judge was Jude Anderson 💐Once again this show had to be a stand alone show without the buzz of the Red Hill show crowd. We did however have a few public visitors keen to see the alpacas. It’s a great venue. The fleeces were being judged by Jillian Holmes and apprentice Ruby Williams.Alpaca products were for sale and the show ring looked fabulous. It was a streamlined show by convenors Nicholas and Lynda Holdsworth💪Chakana Blue Show Results;Zigmund- Intermediate White Male2nd Seriously lustrous and fine!Commotion-Intermediate Brown Male1st and Best BrownMastermind- Senior Light Fawn male2ndFilling out into a beautiful Macho.Pleasing to see our co owned Macho“Ironman” take out a 1st and Reserve Champion and also compete well in the fleece competition with a 1st and Reserve Champion.Chakana Gold Show Results;Absolute- Intermediate White Female1st and Reserve Champion.A Suoer stylish young female.Scaramouche- Intermediate Brown Male2ndJust love this boy🥰Well done to the Supreme Intermediate Male from Baarrooka.Congratulations to all exhibitors🤗 ...
